Winter Scene with Snowman

Using the pen tool, go ahead and draw the rest of the scarf, putting each piece on its own layer and giving it the same layer styles. For even better results, adjust the angle on the gradient overlay to follow the flow of the material.

Now we can do the snowman’s hat, using the same technique.

We’re almost done. Now let’s do the snowman’s eyes and mouth. To do this, we’re just going to place a few simple black dots, like so:

Now let’s do the carrot nose. Grab the polygonal lasso tool and make a triangular selection for the nose. Fill it with orange (#ff9900). Then give it the following Layer Style.

Let’s finish it up with just a few more details. Let’s add some more snow around the base of the snowman.

Then let’s put a few snowflakes in the air.

Now let’s give the whole thing a little texture. Create another new layer and go to Edit - Fill - Pattern. Select the “crepe” pattern and click “OK.” (Note: if this pattern isn’t loaded by default, you may need to click on the options menu for the patterns dialog and select ‘Load patterns” then choose “Greyscale patterns.” Set the layer mode to “Soft Light” and then go to Image - Adjustments - Variations and click “Darker” one time. Click “OK.”

Finally, I added a bit of a decorative edge and some text.
