Drawing The Avatar
Now let’s go in and make black circles for the pupils of Aang’s eyes and also give them some white highlights.
We’ll also trace out the teeth and tongue with the pen tool, convert them to a selection and fill with white and pink accordingly. Alternately, you may just wish to freehand this using the paint brush and the eliptical marquee tool (which is what I’ll be doing).

Finally, to finish off the face, we need to put some shadows inside of his mouth. Do this by selecting the paintbrush with the brush opacity set to 10% and then carefully paint in the shadow.
Here’s the finished head, without the grid, so you can see how it’s shaping up.

Great! Now let’s get started on the rest of our Airbender. We’ll start with Aang’s staff which, if you’ll remember, has a few joints in it, so it’s not just a straight stick.

Now create a new layer under Aang’s head and call it “staff.” Convert the path you just created to a selection and fill it with a dark brown color (#32251e). With the selection still active, hit the up arrow key 5 times and the right arrow key 3 times. Click on the “preserve transparency” icon for the staff layer in the Layers palette and then fill the selection with a lighter brown (#6b4a40).
Hit “D” to reset the colors and then stroke the selection.
Finally, Ctrl+Click on the staff layer to load its selection and stroke it.

Now finish up the staff with the little details.
